About BestMumbai
BestMumbai is an independent guide to the restaurants, clinics, schools, shops and services Mumbaikars depend on, from South Mumbai to the far suburbs.
A city of many centres
Mumbai is not one city so much as dozens of neighbourhoods stitched together by railway lines and arterial roads. South Mumbai has the Fort precinct, the galleries of Kala Ghoda and the old Irani cafés; Dadar and Matunga keep their markets and Udupi restaurants; Bandra and Juhu mix film people, bakeries and seaside promenades; Andheri, Powai and Goregaon have become business districts in their own right.
Each neighbourhood has its trusted doctor, tailor, tutor and caterer, and residents rarely look further than their own station. A useful guide has to know that, and has to look well beyond the handful of names that turn up everywhere.
What BestMumbai does
BestMumbai is an independent local guide to the businesses Mumbaikars rely on. We publish rankings in sixteen categories: food and dining, health, education, shopping, beauty and wellness, culture, cars, legal and financial services, home and renovations, real estate, technology, sport, hotels and pets. Each ranking covers one kind of business, so you are always comparing like for like.
Our editorial approach
We look at every category from Colaba to Dahisar and from Bandra to Mulund, not only in the areas everyone already talks about. What we want to see is a reputation earned over years rather than weeks; we also check addresses and contact numbers and publish only the businesses that genuinely stand out. Every ranking is revisited regularly, so closed places come off and good new ones get a fair chance.
Who it helps
Families who have moved to Mumbai for work and need a school, a clinic and a dependable electrician. Students choosing a coaching institute. Professionals who need a chartered accountant or a lawyer at short notice. Visitors who want to eat where Mumbaikars eat, not only where the guidebooks send them.
